Paris — Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ramtane Lamamra said Sunday evening in Paris that Algeria will fully contribute to the success of the Conference of Parties of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 21).

In a statement to the press upon his arrival in Paris where he will partake in the COP21, Lamamra said that "Algeria will make a full contribution to the success of this conference and reach a fair agreement between the counties' commitments to reduce their emissions of greenhouse gases and the needs dictated by their development goals."

"He added the strong presence of Heads of State and Government at the opening of the conference will give significant momentum to negotiations.

Lamamra also said that Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal will evoke "innovative" ideas of Algeria's position at the conference that remains, he said, "the most important in the history of humanity" in the fight against climate change.

Algeria, he added, plays a "major" role in the various actions against global warming since Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) in 1992, recalling its "active" participation in the preparatory meetings of Paris Summit (Pre-COP).
