Swiss company STADLER Agreement for creation of Algerian maintenance and assembly of trains

ALGIERS- The National railway Company (SNTF) and the Swiss company STADLER signed Tuesday, in Algiers, a Memorandum of Understanding for the creation, in Algeria, of a joint venture specializing in the maintenance and the installation of trains under the Swiss manufacturer’s brand name.

The signing of this Memorandum of Understanding took place in the presence of Minister of Transports, Boudjema Talai and the Swiss State Secretary for Economic Affairs.

The SNTF and the Swiss company are committed to creating the joint stock company STADLER-Algeria under the 51/49% rule and which is expected to begin production in June 2016.

In the first phase, the future company will specialize in the maintenance of trains and the STADLER equipment, already acquired by the SNTF before starting in the assembly of this manufacturer’s trains, said Talai at the signing ceremony.

Since 2009, Algeria purchased 64 train units from this brand, known for its advanced technology, according to the SNTF.

For this project, the SNTF scheduled one of its maintenance workshops, located in Caroubier (Algiers), to house the future plant that should meet Algeria’s needs in trains units.
