Algiers — The launch of the invitation to tender for the introduction of a fourth-generation mobile telephony (4G) in Algeria was authorized, Wednesday, by the Council of Ministers.
The Council of Ministers authorized the competent bodies to proceed to the launch of the invitation to tender for the introduction of the fourth-generation mobile telephony (4G)," said the communiqué made public at the end of the meeting of Council of ministers chaired by the President of the Republic, Abdelaziz Bouteflika.
The documentation of the invitation to tender "is already elaborated for the granting of the licence for the establishment and the exploitation for the 4G mobile telephony, and its distribution is imminent," explained the source.
This invitation to tender will be open "to the three incumbent mobile carriers, which already have their infrastructures deployed," added the communiqué.
"The carrier or carriers that will be qualified following the examination of the offers, will deploy the 4G gradually across the country, take over the coverage of the entire territory within a maximum period of four years," added the source.
The minister of Post and Information and Communication Technologies Imane Houda-Faraoun recently announced that the 4G wireless will be officially launched during the 1st semester of 2016.
