ALGIERS- Algeria will continue to support the African police cooperation mechanism (AFRIPOL), said Sunday in Algiers Minister of Interior and Local Authorities Nourredine Bedoui.

In his address at the AFRIPOL meeting, Bedoui reiterated "Algeria's willingness to work with other partners for the promotion of the African mechanism and the strengthening of cooperation between the countries of the continent in the fight against the transnational organized crime."

The minister said that Algeria, which attaches great importance to the strengthening of security cooperation "capitalizes on its experience and its capacities in the field," which is clearly shown through "our support and the material and organizational means we are providing to ensure the success of the mechanism," he added.

Many threats to the continent security, especially the crime in all its forms, terrorism and weapon and drug trafficking," said Bedoui underlining the need for "greater cooperation between African countries in the fight against crime and a more coherent action in the fight against terrorism, which has become a transnational scourge."

AFRIPOL is "the appropriate mechanism for the adoption of a joint action between African countries with a view to develop harmonized strategies and exchange views on the methods of fight against crime, particularly terrorism and drug trafficking," said Bedoui.

AFRIPOL conference, which got underway Sunday in Algiers, aims at adopting the legal texts relating to the launch of the new African police cooperation mechanism.
