Algiers — Algeria and Iran intend to create joint companies in maintenance, monitoring and control of roads and highways, Minister of Public Works Abdelkader Ouali said Wednesday in Algiers.

Following discussions he held with Abbas Akhondi, the Iranian minister of Roads and Urban Development, Ouali told reporters that Algeria wants to benefit from Iran's experience in this area through the creation of joint companies.

The Iranian minister is in Algeria as part of a two-day visit by Iran's first vice president, during which the two sides will held an Algerian-Iranian joint high commission meeting.

"Algeria has achieved more than 23,000 km of highway, and we are interested in developing, with the Iranians, roads' maintenance and electronic monitoring resources."
