Algiers — Minister of Energy Salah Khebri received Monday German Ambassador to Algeria Gotz Lingenthal, with whom he discussed energy cooperation, and invited German companies to invest in the energy field in Algeria.

During the discussions, held at the headquarters of the Energy Ministry, the two sides examined cooperation between Algeria and Germany in the field of energy and cooperation prospects, said the Ministry in a statement.

Khebri and the German ambassador hailed the signing, in March 2015, of a declaration of intent for Algerian-German energy partnership, said the statement.

In this regard, they underlined the need to implement the declaration through concrete projects, especially in the fields of renewable energy and energy efficiency, added the statement.

The minister also invited German companies to explore investment opportunities in the sector of energy in Algeria.

The declaration of intent for Algerian-German energy partnership aims at strengthening energy cooperation through the establishment of a high-level dialogue on different energy policies, the development of renewable energies, enhancement of energy efficiency and environmental protection.

Hydrocarbon exploration and production, the promotion of industrial partnerships and training are areas of cooperation that should be strengthened between Algeria and Germany.

In order to ensure the implementation of the cooperation projects, the two countries agreed to set up a monitoring committee as well as working groups.
