Algiers — The news about the participation of Algeria in military drills in South Africa, reported by several media, "is inaccurate," the spokesman of the ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abdelaziz Benali-Cherif, said Wednesday.

"In his statement following the discussions he held with his Congolese counterpart, on the sidelines of a high-level seminar on peace and security in Africa (hosted by Algerian western capital Oran), Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ramtane Lamamra never mentioned Algerian armed forces' participation in such drills," Benali Cherif told APS.

"As it did in the past, our country responded to an African Union's request to carry African friendly countries' troops as part of the logistic support to African Standby Force (AFS) and the force's strategic mobility."
