ALGIERS- Natural gas is an energy on which Algeria must count both to meet its needs and to ensure its energy transition said Tuesday, in Algiers, the President-General Manager of Sonatrach, Amine Mazouzi.

"Algeria is a gas-producing country and will remain so. Gas is necessary to the development of the country, it is abundant and allows reducing CO2 emissions, which makes it an excellent resource allowing to effectively managing energy transition," he said in his speech at the fifth symposium of the Algerian Association of Industry and Gas (AIG).

The CEO recalled that the country, which has a potential of 16,000 billion M3 of conventional gas and of 20,000 billion of non-conventional gas, must bet on new technologies to exploit at best this resource he dubbed a "resource of the future" for Algeria.

It is an opinion shared by the President-General Manager of Sonelgaz, Noureddine Boutarfa who recalled the efforts made by the public group in the execution of projects allowing to make savings.

He indicated, on this matter, the decision to operate the new natural gas power plants which will allow, among other things, to dispense with polluting energies.
