Algiers — Speaker of the People's National Assembly (Lower House) Mohamed Larbi Ould Khelifa met Friday with Albania's President Bujar Nishani on the sidelines of his participation in the 10th session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean.

According to a statement released by the Lower House of Parliament, the Albanian president welcomed at this hearing "the great contribution of Algeria in the training of the Albanian elite," stressing "the will of his country to work to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in economic, political, diplomatic and cultural areas."

The Albanian president also praised "the pioneering role of Algeria as a state actor in strengthening stability in the Mediterranean and the Arab and African neighboring countries."

Ould Khelifaevoked "the great challenges facing the world including immigration, terrorism and instability," highlighting the need for a settlement of crises through dialogue and peaceful means without any form of interference.

"He also spoke of Algeria's experience in the fight against terrorism and peace restoring, an experience that has made our country the citadel of safety and democracy in the Arab world and Africa.

"This achievement is the result of reforms initiated by President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika at all levels and the charter for peace and national reconciliation that ended the national tragedy and allowed Algeria to restore security and stability and become an important state in the Arab world, Africa and the Mediterranean region."
