Algiers — Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ramtane Lamamra on Wednesday here highlighted the "positive indicators marking the dialogue process between the Syrians" branding as "ordinary" the visit of his Syrian counterpart Walid al-Muallem to Algeria.
In a statement following his one-on-one talks with Al-Muallem, later broadened to the two delegations, Lamamra dubbed "ordinary" the Syrian Fm visit to Algeria, a visit that allowed the Syrian delegation to meet with Algerian officials.
This visit will be crowned by a meeting with President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika, during which Al-Muallem will transmit a message from Syrian president Bashar al-Assad
Syria "is living through crucial moments of its contemporary history," recalled Lamamra.
The situation in Syria "is positively evolving with the cessation of hostilities, the launch of dialogue and a clear willingness of the Syrians to learn from the Algerian experience in terms of harmony and national reconciliation."
At the bilateral level, Lamamra welcomed the "secular" relationship between the two countries "from Emir Abdelkader El-Djazairi and the activists who left Algeria at a time of our history to go in their second country Syria and live there."
Moreover, Lamamra highlighted the strong cohesion between the Algerian and Syrian peoples adding that "we have stood side by side, in the past, against the Israeli occupation and its expansion in the Arab nation. And we are today facing the same trials that we had been able to overcome. "
